The British Academy Television Craft Awards support, promote and celebrate the best professionals in the television industry who have had their productions shown in the UK over the past year. During this year’s awards, HBO won a total of five times, with the HBO original miniseries I MAY DESTROY YOU standing out amongst the rest.
The HBO original miniseries I MAY DESTROY YOU won in three categories: Best Fiction Editing, Best Fiction Director for Sam Miller and Michaela Coel and Best Drama Writer for Michaela Coel. Based on the personal experiences of creator and codirector, Michaela Coel, who also stars as the main character, the production explores the questions of sexual consent in modern life and where the distinction is drawn between sexual freedom and exploitation in today’s current world of dating and relationships.
HBO also won awards for the second season of HIS DARK MATERIALS, which received awards in the categories of Best Sound: Fiction (Jon Thomas, Gareth Bull, James Ridgeway, Dillon Bennett and Eilam Hoffman for Episode 7) and Special, Visual & Graphic Effects (Russell Dodgson, James Whitlam, Jean-Clement Soret, Robert Harrington, Dan May and Brian Fisher). Adapted from Phillip Pullman’s award-winning trilogy, the fantasy series tells the story of Lyra, a seemingly ordinary young lady who meets Will, who is also escaping from a difficult past. The two youths soon discover that their fates are linked by their search for Will’s father, but they encounter constant threats and a war that is beginning to brew around them.
