JOKER, the blockbuster film based on the DC Comics’ supervillain and starring multi award-winner Joaquin Phoenix, premieres on July 18, exclusively on HBO and HBO GO.
In what could be the origin story of the infamous arch nemesis, Arthur Fleck is an aspiring stand-up comedian who lives with his mother and suffers from a medical condition that causes him to laugh at inappropriate times. After a gang of criminals attacks Arthur in an alley, his co-worker gives him a gun to protect himself. From that moment on, a series of unfavorable events unfold for Arthur.
Aside from Phoenix, the stellar cast includes Robert De Niro, Zazie Beetz, Frances Conroy, Brett Cullen, Glenn Fleshler, Bill Camp, Shea Whigham y Marc Maron.
The controversial feature film was presented for the first time at the gala of the 76th Venice International Film Festival where it won the highest award and opened the conversation about mental illness and prejudices around these conditions.
JOKER is produced by Warner Bros. Pictures, DC Films and Joint Effort, in association with Bron Creative and Village Roadshow Pictures.
