MIAMI, FL., February 8, 2024 - On February 27, HBO Max becomes Max, bringing extraordinary stories for everyone with a collection of high-quality entertainment across all genres and formats, including original productions from the HBO brand, which will have its own dedicated space as it lives and grows within the platform. With this, Max announces the debut of the new limited series THE REGIME, the first original HBO production to premiere on the platform following its launch in the region. Starring Oscar® winner Kate Winslet, written by Will Tracy, and directed by Stephen Frears (101, 102 and 104) and Jessica Hobbs (103, 105 and 106), the limited series will premiere on Sunday, March 3, at 9 pm ET on Max and HBO.
THE REGIME stands out as one of the first original productions to premiere on Max, consolidating the platform's diverse quality offering and providing a new streaming experience with an unparalleled catalog that, within the first few months, will offer over 37,000 hours of content, more than double the amount currently available on HBO Max. All this, accompanied by an improved user experience and a more robust platform with more customization features that will invite consumers to find their favorite stories or discover a new passion.
The darkly comedic six-episode series tells the story of life within the walls of a modern authoritarian regime as it begins to unravel. After not leaving the palace for quite some time, Chancellor Elena Vernham (Kate Winslet) has grown increasingly paranoid and unstable when she turns to a volatile soldier, Herbert Zubak (Matthias Schoenaerts), as an unlikely confidant. As Zubak’s influence over the chancellor continues to grow, Elena’s attempts to expand her power eventually result in both the palace and the country fracturing around her.
Kate Winslet leads a stellar cast including Matthias Schoenaerts, Guillaume Gallienne, Andrea Riseborough, Martha Plimpton, and Hugh Grant.
Executive producers are Will Tracy, who also serves as showrunner and writer, Frank Rich, Tracey Seaward, Kate Winslet, Stephen Frears, and Jessica Hobbs. Writers are Seth Reiss, Sarah DeLappe, Gary Shteyngart, Jen Spyra, and Juli Weiner.
